The end of Big Bang? G-Dragon Instagram post raises speculation he could leave the K-pop boy band

  • Instagram post by G-Dragon, Big Bang’s leader, earlier this month raised speculation he will be the next to leave the group
  • Big Bang bandmate T.O.P also revealed on Sunday he would retire from the entertainment industry

An Instagram post by G-Dragon – the leader of famed K-pop boy band Big Bang – in early October has led to speculation about his possible exit from the group.

G-Dragon’s Instagram post read: “Live for yourself. Let the world turn without you. It’s not the end of the world without you. Don’t take yourself too seriously.”

Big Bang’s agency YG Entertainment has yet to make an official announcement.

“I haven’t received any messages about the group’s future activities,” a YG spokesperson said. “I think the members have to be discharged from the military first. We will come up with a statement when it is ready.”

G-Dragon’s post took on new meaning after his fellow Big Bang bandmate T.O.P revealed in an Instagram post on Sunday that he would retire from the entertainment industry.

“Yes! God! I have no plan to come back,” he wrote.

Bandmate T.O.P said on Sunday he would retire from the entertainment industry.

T.O.P was responding to a comment which suggested he take time for self-reflection and not return to show business. In July 2017, the rapper was given a 10-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, for smoking marijuana multiple times in 2016.

G-Dragon was also embroiled in a marijuana scandal for allegedly smoking the drug at a club in Japan in 2011.

In February 2018, he began serving his mandatory military service but sparked controversy after allegedly receiving preferential treatment while enlisted. He will be discharged on October 26.

Big Bang made their debut in 2006 with five members – G-Dragon, Taeyang, Daesung, T.O.P and Seungri. However, Seungri left in March this year after a nightclub linked to him became mired in various scandals involving drugs and sex crimes.

Taeyang and Daesung, who are also serving in the military, will also be discharged in November.
