Five fun Halloween events in Hong Kong, from a haunted cruise to a ghostly treat for your dog
- A Haunted Halloween Cruise in a red-sail Chinese junk, a masquerade night and a ‘Netflix and Thrill’ party where we’re betting Squid Game costumes will be big
- For something a bit out of the ordinary, how about some face painting before brunch, or a Halloween party for you and your pooch, with doggy-friendly goodies
Hong Kong loves Halloween, that time of the year when the city’s restaurants and bars get into the spirit with costume parties and “spooktacular”-sounding cocktails.
Here’s a taste of some of the treats on offer.
1. Making scary waves
The Aqua Luna, one of Hong Kong’s last red-sail Chinese junk boats, is getting into the Halloween spirit with a Haunted Halloween Cruise on October 30 and 31 between 5.30pm-8.30pm from Central Pier 9.
Tickets for the one-hour cruise of Victoria Harbour cost HK$400 per adult and HK$300 per child and include a cocktail (the Hocus Pocus, a concoction of gin, blue curaçao, lemon juice, and soda water) or mocktail. Free-flow Prosecco, wine, beer, soft drinks and juices available for an extra HK$100 per person.

2. Behind the mask
For Central hidden bar the Dispensary’s Deadly Masquerade Party on October 29 and 30, guests are invited to wear their most extravagant masquerade costumes to conceal their identity at the bar on the top floor of Tai Kwun, the heritage centre in the former police headquarters and Victoria Prison. Indulge in a spooky sounding Bloody Vanitas cocktail (HK$148).
The Dispensary, Police Headquarters Block 01, Tai Kwun, 10 Hollywood Road, Central.

3. Kill time at Roji
Izakaya bar Roji in Lan Kwai Fong is getting into the Halloween mood with a “Netflix and Thrill” DJ event inspired by another pandemic-wrecked year that saw many people binge on the streaming service. While some might come as their favourite superhero from The Umbrella Academy, it’s more likely that the green jumpsuits from the dystopian thriller Squid Game will be out in force. Best costume wins HK$3,000 in Roji credit. Tickets are HK$498 (online) and HK$598 (at the door).

Its Halloween weekend brunch will be served on October 30 and 31 from 11.30am to 3.30pm. Its Belvedere Brunch, priced at HK$628, includes 1.5 hour free-flow of Belvedere cocktails, Moët & Chandon champagne and signature mocktails.
