Hong Kong filmmaker Stephen Chow Sing-chi is preparing to shoot a new film, Shaolin Women’s Soccer.
The comic-movie maker posted the news on June 22, 2023, his 61st birthday, on his Instagram account with a video showing the first draft of the script.
What caught people’s attention was his casting call-out.
“Here’s my birthday wish. To spend a good time with so many pretty girls (young, beautiful, smart, curvy, ATHLETIC). All countries are welcomed. The more the better!” he posted.

Chow invited candidates to send in recent photos of themselves, with a warning: “Photoshopped photo will never work. It will be condemned by us and by the United Nations.”
One of the many reactions to the Instagram post came from Hong Kong Cantopop star Edison Chen.

“CAN I BE ONE OF YOUR GIRLS?” wrote Chen.
The film is Chow’s first project since directing The New King Of Comedy in 2019.
Chow’s hit comedy Shaolin Soccer, which he directed and in which he played the lead role, was released in 2001, co-starred Ng Man-tat, Vicki Zhao, Karen Mok and Cecilia Cheung.


The film set box office records and won best picture, best director, best actor and other prizes at the 2002 Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan.
