Remote working has become the norm for many Hongkongers, thanks to the now officially declared coronavirus pandemic, but this flexible arrangement does come with its own challenges for couples.

At first glance, the opportunity to work from home certainly sounds tempting for couples: the flexible working hours, no (unnecessary) meetings, no strict schedules, a healthy work-life balance, or maybe even a chance to indulge in some afternoon “delight”.

Whether you look at working from home with envy or apprehension, the undeniable reality is that no matter how much you love or desire each other, being under the same roof 24/7 with your partner can become suffocating.

Very often, stress at work tends to spill over and create drama at home. Now, as the city battles the relentless coronavirus to prevent community outbreaks, couples who are forced to work from home are finding their work and home lives intertwined to the extent that it’s impossible to switch off or avoid increasing conflicts that strain their relationships.
