Hong Kong has seen a rise in pet ownership in recent years, with the city’s population of dogs, cats and smaller mammals – as well as birds, fish and reptiles – increasing by 50,000 to 1.19 million between 2018 and 2023, according to online statistics portal Statista.
Booming alongside this is a pet economy that includes everything from pet-friendly cafes and boutiques to grooming salons.
If you want to support a good cause while you shop for your pet, check out a charity market at The One in Tsim Sha Tsui in Kowloon – it supports a Hong Kong animal charity.

1. Hong Kong Dog Rescue charity market
Hong Kong Dog Rescue (HKDR) has been rescuing and rehoming abandoned dogs in the city for 20 years. Animal-lovers can lend a helping paw by supporting its charity market at The One in Tsim Sha Tsui on September 28-29.
Shop at the stalls of vendors including fashion brand Momoji Pets (@momoji.hk), freeze-dried pet food specialists CAD, Hong Kong brand Zootage (@zootage.hk) and plant-based pet care brand Petal (@_ petal.co). All proceeds will go towards helping the 600 dogs in the shelter’s care.
Pets are not allowed in the shopping centre, but pet owners can stock up on goodies and join one of the workshops – the pet portrait painting session looks fun.

2. John Hardy autumn 2024 collection
John Hardy has carved an enviable reputation for artisanal handcrafted jewellery from the Indonesian island of Bali, and its latest collection fuses traditional craftsmanship with modern design.
The brand – which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025 – has released an autumn 2024 line that features new twists to its classic collections.
The Spear collection is now available in rose gold and darker metals, while the Love Knot collection has two intertwined chains symbolising commitment. Both collections now cater to the male customer.

3. Candle Up’s Diwali discount
Candle Up was founded by Rhythma Berry in Cambodia in 2014 – the same year she had her first baby. Berry, now based in Hong Kong, could not find toxin-free candles so she started making her own, using ceramics and glass jars that would otherwise have ended up in landfill.

4. Autumn home furnishing expo
A one-stop home expo has taken over the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai, on Hong Kong Island, until September 29 (11am-8pm on Friday and Saturday, 11am-7pm on Sunday), showing the latest furniture, interior design, building materials and environmental products.
The exhibition is divided into three zones: the move-in and renovation planning section includes interior design, building materials, renovation and safety equipment; the home zone includes appliances and accessories as well as bedding and sofas; and there is a new elderly-friendly home zone.
Free lectures by professionals, and consultations, are available during the expo.

5. Conrad Macao pink collectibles
An average of 15 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each day in Hong Kong, making it the most common cancer affecting women in the city.
To promote breast health, the Conrad Macao hotel is again holding its Pink Inspired campaign in support of the Hong Kong Cancer Fund’s breast cancer awareness efforts.
