Hong Kong’s retail scene gets a whole lot hipper this weekend as streetwear brands Human Made, from Japan, and South Korea’s Matin Kim make their debuts.
Human Made has gained a cult following since being founded in 2010 by Tomoaki Nagao, better known as Nigo – the fashion entrepreneur behind A Bathing Ape and Kenzo’s creative director.
And with the rise of K-culture, it makes sense that South Korean brands like Matin Kim are tapping overseas markets.

1. Human Made lands in Hong Kong
Japanese streetwear favourite Human Made will open its first Hong Kong store in Repulse Bay on October 26.
To mark the opening the brand, known for vintage designs and meticulous craftsmanship, is launching an exclusive collection featuring denim jackets, sweatshirts, tees and totes.
Entry to the store on Saturday October 26 and Sunday October 27 will be decided by lottery. For details, check Human Made’s official Instagram page.

2. Matin Kim makes Hong Kong debut
Also debuting in Hong Kong is hip South Korean brand Matin Kim. The store opening is on October 25, and comes on the back of the brand’s successful foray into the Japanese market.
Check out the brand’s 2024 pre-autumn collection Ready, Set, Ok, which comprises T-shirts, leather handbags and loafers as well accessories such as wallets and cardholders.

3. Jisoo joins Tommy Hilfiger
K-pop star Jisoo of supergroup Blackpink has joined Tommy Hilfiger as a brand ambassador.
In shots from the brand’s autumn ’24 collection, available in stores worldwide including Hong Kong, Jisoo wears looks including a camel wool coat, a Breton-striped cardigan and a denim skirt.
Tommy Hilfiger’s Hong Kong locations include at Times Square, Sogo, Cityplaza and Harbour City

4. Inspiring Girls Hong Kong x Shanghai Tang
Inspiring Girls Hong Kong, a non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering young women, has partnered with fashion brand Shanghai Tang.
The collaboration, which runs until November 10, aims to inspire girls to explore career opportunities in the creative industries.
During the campaign period, Shanghai Tang will donate 1 per cent of the proceeds from sales of its Friends of Shanghai Tang womenswear collection at Hong Kong boutiques and its online store to Inspiring Girls Hong Kong.

5. Tea with Steve Harrison
After all that fashion shopping, you might need some chill time – and a cup of tea.
Craft tea company Plantation Tea Bar, in Sai Wan, hosts British ceramic artist Steve Harrison for a tasting of three speciality Chinese teas curated for his handmade cups. They will be paired with a selection of snacks.
The event (HK$628 per person) takes place on October 27 at 5.30pm. A small collection of Harrison’s works will also be available for purchase.
