Restaurant review: LN Fortunate Coffee in Sai Ying Pun – a haven for the vegan grazer
Creative substitutes for meat and seafood including salads, baked potatoes, pasta and burgers
LN Fortunate Coffee is a haven for the vegan grazer.
The new restaurant in Sai Ying Pun is spacious and bright. The chefs here are creative in looking for substitutes for meat and seafood. The starchy Japanese plant konjac is used in place of octopus in fried vegan squid ring (HK$48), and it’s just as chewy as the real thing.
Soybeans are used in place of meat in the vegan slices with black pepper pasta (HK$108, including a soup), and the texture has a similar juiciness to beef.
Most of the coffee beans sold here are supplied by local coffee shop Urban Coffee Roaster, with the rotation of six daily choices changed every week. Cappuccino (HK$36), made with soya milk, has strong aromas. Those who avoid coffee will appreciate the fresh fruit juices and smoothies.
Even the desserts are made without eggs and dairy products. Waffles with banana (HK$68) are soft and spongy inside, with a crisp exterior, and we appreciate they’re not too sweet.
