The so-called Money Fight between boxer Floyd Mayweather Jnr and mixed martial arts star Conor McGregor is also raking in the cash for Hong Kong’s bars, with many already booked to capacity for the Sunday morning (Hong Kong time) showdown.
The main event, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, kicks off in time for breakfast in Hong Kong, at about 11am, and Hongkongers are shelling out to see whether undefeated ring champion Mayweather can make it to 50 victories or will be defeated by upstart UFC fighter McGregor.
Stop the nonsense – Conor McGregor doesn’t have even a puncher’s chance against Floyd Mayweather
All 240 seats have been snapped up at Grappa’s Cellar in Central, which is charging HK$280 for entrance, breakfast and a beer. In Wan Chai sports bar The Dog House, all 70 seats have been reserved for HK$350, also with breakfast and a beer included. However, there is standing room for 30 walk-in customers, the bar says. The Foreign Correspondents’ Club in Central has also entered the fray. As of Thursday afternoon, the club had only four seats out of 84 left unsold for members and their guests.
