The three best Hong Kong restaurants to try in October, for Cantonese, Sichuan, Korean and Japanese fare

Our pick of the top places to try, if you haven’t already, include a new venture from Fook Lam Moon, a yakiton –like a yakitori but serving pork – and a Korean barbecue restaurant

In September, our reviewers visited a range of restaurants, from cheap and cheerful Thai to a restaurant specialising in high-end and creative kebabs.

It’s pork on a stick: Mokumoku Yakiton, new in Causeway Bay – review

The ones at the top of our list for a return visit are all East Asian: one specialising in Cantonese and Sichuan dishes, a Japanese izakaya that grills all parts of the pig, and one that makes delicious Korean barbecue.

1. Fooklore

It’s not surprising that this place is one of our top picks – after all, it is by the Fook Lam Moon group. We’ll be back with a larger group of people so we can try many of the dishes we did not get to taste the first time around.

2. Mokumoku Yakiton

Do not eat here if you’re squeamish: they sell everything from pork lard to pig’s heart and liver. We loved it – and so did the other customers, many of whom seemed to be regulars.

3. The Charcoal Room

This Korean barbecue restaurant serves Hanwoo beef and Jeju pork, which, while common in Korea, are not easy to find in Hong Kong.

Although these are premium meats, the prices here are reasonable for the quality.
