Chinese, Italian, Indian: a long-time vegetarian picks his favourite restaurants in Hong Kong
- Lawyer Paul Haswell is an adventurous eater and will try anything, as long as it’s meat-free
- He loves to visit vegetarian restaurants, but is quite happy eating in non-veggie outlets

I have been vegetarian for 26 years. Sometimes it can be challenging to find good vegan food in Hong Kong but things have improved massively over the past 10 years. I like trying new cuisines and will pretty much eat anything as long as it doesn’t contain meat.
A favourite vegetarian restaurant run by Peggy Chan, recently rebranded as Nectar (Centrestage, 108 Hollywood Road, Sheung Wan, tel: 2873 3353). It’s a great airy but intimate space, and my go-to destination to take people who haven’t tried vegetarian food.
I also like to take people who don’t believe in good vegetarian Chinese food to Pure Veggie House (6/F, M88, Wellington Place, 2-8 Wellington Street, Central, tel: 2525 0552). Everything is organic and they are always busy, but in a very Zen space.
