I love restaurants that allow me to linger over lunch or dinner, and won’t push me out after a time. I believe good food must be enjoyed, whether I am eating alone or with family and friends.
For a quick and satisfying lunch, Café&Meal Muji (various locations including 3/F, Lee Theatre Plaza, 99 Percival Street, Causeway Bay, tel: 3971 3120) is it. For HK$95, I can choose two cold dishes and a hot dish from a wide selection. It is often a difficult choice as everything looks fresh and delicious. I love the healthy mixed grain rice and miso soup. At lunch, it can be crowded but it never feels uncomfortable.
I also like the to-die-for pasta carbonara at Habitu (various locations including Shop L804, 8/F Hysan Place, 500 Hennessy Road, Causeway Bay, tel: 3543 1313). It is not too creamy and wet and the pasta is al dente. Every time I order it, it is consistently cooked, with the right amount of ham. The smoked mozzarella margherita pizza is also a favourite. It’s super thin and packed with sweet tomatoes, lots of basil and chewy mozzarella. I also love the café’s quiet ambience. Other times, I come for a delicious rose caffe latte with a book or wander into Eslite bookstore for more browsing after my coffee.
I take visitors to Tung Po Kitchen (2/F, Java Road Municipal Services Building, 99 Java Road, North Point, tel: 2880 5224) to experience unique local dining in an air-conditioned wet market. They are always crowded so make a reservation. You still might have to wait a bit. I generally go early at 6pm.
