Hong Kong’s ultimate mango sticky rice, and divine white truffles – favourite restaurants of skiwear entrepreneur Sandy Ip
- Keen skier Sandy Ip has a thing for Japanese food – she’s a regular at Ronin and Yardbird, she says – and desserts, which she sates at Thai restaurant Samsen
- Neighborhood in Soho is another favourite, and for out-of-town guests she favours dim sum for lunch, and dinner with a harbour view
Sandy Ip’s background is in retail and merchandising for various luxury brands, but she is also an avid skier. Her current venture is The Ski Project, which offers stylish, functional winter attire, and is available in Lane Crawford in Hong Kong. She is also opening a shop in the Park Hyatt Hotel Niseko Hanazono in Japan.
I generally eat very healthily, but my weakness is Japanese food and desserts. I prefer home-cooked meals, but there are new restaurants popping up around town every other day with a little more buzz and higher levels of ambition and gourmet technique.
Almost everything is delicious, but my favourite dish at Ronin would be their flower crab with uni and the seasonal dish of shirako tempura. At Yardbird, it is the yuba salad, chicken tsukune and the Korean rice cake. Plus, the staff always make sure you have a great time and that your sake glass is filled.
