I think I’ve been a food lover since I was a toddler. I grew up on my school cafeteria’s tomato grilled cheese, get excited when I hear the sound of an ice cream truck, and love strolling the alleyways of Tsukiji Market in Tokyo, Japan.
I enjoy a family-style or tapas approach to food – small nibbles and finger foods to go with a glass of wine or cocktail. Great conversation and lots of laughs are musts. I prefer a plant-based diet – but I can’t resist a good steak.
I also like to explore different cuisines (Hong Kong is great for this) and I talk to the owners and get to know their stories. I believe that is the secret ingredient for great flavour.

It’s difficult to pinpoint my favourites in the city’s ever-changing restaurant scene, but here are some recent picks.
Komune (4/F, Ovolo Southside, 64 Wong Chuk Hang Road. Tel: 3460 8157) is in my neighbourhood in the Southern district of Hong Kong Island, has a great happy hour selection, a plant-based menu and outdoor seating. I’m always bumping into my neighbours here – it’s a fun weekday hang-out. My favourite is the roasted cauliflower.
