“When it comes to Chinese food, dim sum is always my favourite,” Australian TV chef Curtis Stone says when asked what his go-to foods are in Hong Kong.
“We went to Saam Hui Yaat in Sai Ying Pun for dim sum, and I loved the har gow there,” says the 47-year-old during a break from filming for a new season of his food and travel show Field Trip with Curtis Stone.
Stone, who operates two restaurants in Los Angeles. Michelin-star Maude, and Gwen – a joint venture with his brother Luke – began presenting the TV show in 2020 on American channel PBS. The six episodes were inspired by his global travels to research the regional menus served at Maude in Beverly Hills. A second, eight-episode season followed.
The Melbourne-born chef first burst into the world of reality TV in 2006, starring in TLC’s Take Home Chef, where he would be filmed approaching strangers in a grocery store to see if they were planning on cooking for someone that night; when the person responded in the affirmative, Stone offered his services to help cook dinner.
They then drove to the participant’s house, cooked the meal, and surprised the participant’s dinner guest or partner upon his or her arrival. The series ran until 2008.
