Early on Wednesday a “half blood moon” partial lunar eclipse was visible across Asia, from Jakarta to New Delhi, the result of a celestial alignment that two weeks ago caused a total solar eclipse in Chile and Argentina.

Eclipses can make for stunning sights – and stargazing travellers search them out again and again. However, those in Asia-Pacific countries who think travelling to remote parts of the globe to see an eclipse is going too far will have one question: when is the next eclipse in Asia-Pacific?

In 2009 the longest total solar eclipse of the 21st century occurred over China, and there was another one over the Maluku Sea in Indonesia in 2016. More are on their way.
