A clutch of newrestaurants have set up in Sai Ying Pun, taking advantage of the recent opening of the MTR's West Island Line.

One of them is Yuan is Here, a Taiwanese outlet that recreates the vibrant night market eating scene in Taiwan. Opened by Taiwanese boss Ah Yuan, the restaurant is popular — we've seen diners queuing outside as we've passed by. It's easy to understand why as the food, modelled on Taiwanese street fare, is cheap and delicious.

Taiwanese-style braised pork rice (HK$27) had just enough oil and the pork belly wasn't too fatty. We also enjoyed the chicken meat rice (HK$27), with its shredded chicken breast meat.

Thousand-year egg tofu (HK$30) came in a small cup, and the minced ingredients had the flavour of sesame oil.

Sweet plum fried sweet potato (HK$30) was a pure delight. You can ask the waiter to sprinkle more sweet plum powder on top.

Pak Kong aromatic mushroom meat soup (HK$30) was thick but over-seasoned. A better option was the sishen soup (HK$20), with pork intestines, mushrooms and lotus seeds. It tasted strongly medicinal, but we enjoyed it.
