My go-to breakfast has and always will be at the Australia Dairy Company (47-49 Parkes Street, Jordan, tel: 2730 1356). The scrambled eggs and steamed milk are to die for and, despite the name, this place is a true Hong Kong institution.
Vietnam may not be producing the best wines yet, but that doesn't mean that a good wine doesn't pair well with the cuisine. Chôm Chôm (58-60 Peel Street, SoHo, tel: 2810 0850) is where I head to for a tasty Vietnamese meal. I love the garlic chicken wings.
Cocotte (9 Shin Hing Street, Central, tel: 2568 8857) is a family-owned French hideout in the heart of NoHo, and serves up seasonal Parisian fare with an unrivalled wine list. The weekend brunch is also a must-try.
Speaking of NoHo, the best coffee I've found in Hong Kong is at Elephant Grounds (11 Gough Street, Sheung Wan, tel: 2253 1313). And if you have a sweet tooth then you must try the outstanding ice cream sandwich. Brew Bros Coffee (33 Hillier Street, Sheung Wan, tel: 2572 0238) is a cool little joint with brews to make any java lover go weak at the knees.
The wine list at Alibi  (5/F Langham Place Hotel, 555 Shanghai Street, Mong Kok, tel: 3552 3028) is great. The slogan is "Wine Dine Be Social" — a perfect fit for me any day of the week.
Ham & Sherry (1-7 Ship Street, Wan Chai, tel: 2555 0628) is great for a bit of tapas, jamon and sherry. I love sherry and this joint is the perfect spot for it. It has the largest sherry list in Asia which explains why they always have a queue.
I am a sucker for Peking duck and Spring Deer (1/F, 42 Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2366 4012) plates up the stuff in abundance. It's a go-to restaurant for northern Chinese food due to its authenticity and lack of pretension — a must try with a group of friends.
It's hard to find nice al fresco spots in Hong Kong, which is why I was so excited when I came across Le Cornet Belge (63 Elgin Street, SoHo, tel: 2661 9078). The burgers are off the hook; the only downside is that they don't serve wine.
I love the food stalls at Bowrington Road Cooked Food Centre in Causeway Bay on the top floor of the indoor market. They dish up dai pai dong-style Cantonese cuisine and halal food, it's all cheap, cheerful and delicious, and the atmosphere is raucous.
I think Melbourne has some of the best restaurants in the world, MoVida (1 Hosier Lane, Melbourne, tel: +61 3 9663 3038) is one of them. The quality and freshness of the ingredients are great. This Spanish eatery is the kind of place you can go for a beer, snack on some croquetta, and share a plate of slow braised lamb while sipping on Spanish wine — perfect.
