the old Inn Side Out in Causeway Bay was loved for its unpretentious vibe and outdoor terrace. But the bulldozers came earlier this year and Inn Side Out has been reincarnated inside the South China Athletic Association's clubhouse. Peanut shells still crunch under your feet, there's another great terrace - an elongated strip with the soccer pitch on one side and skyscrapers on the other - and a good mix of locals and expats.
Inn Side Out has a cheeky menu. The drinks list has sections called "Premium Boring Beer" and "Alco Pops", with Smirnoff Ice and Angry Orchard Crisp Apple Hard Cider for those who want to rekindle freshers'-week hangovers. We ignore these, ordering from the "Exciting Imported Draft Beer" list. The Leffe (HK$50) from Belgium and Fuller's Honeydew from England (HK$52) were both light and refreshing. A glass of Crane Lake Sauvignon Blanc (HK$42,) was good value. There is a decent cocktail list with some old favourites. I enjoyed the Nothing (HK$75), made from Potter's Melon Liqueur, vodka and pineapple juice. The classic Mojito (HK$80) was a little on the sugary side. There's a huge range of food from pizzas to salads and burgers. We tried the super-sized onion rings (HK$50) and fries with mustard dressing (HK$48) to complement the huge bowls of free peanuts.
the prices are low, the drinks are simple and the vibe is chipper. Because it's in the SCAA you have to pay a HK$120 joining fee for the year. However, you get a HK$150 voucher after becoming a member.
