Lamb skewers with potato crunch and sweet onion confit at Casa de Tapas in Taipa village

SPANISH MORSELS

Located in the heart of historic Taipa village, close to Macau's Cotai Strip, is the recently opened Casa de Tapas. It's worth the short walk from the Galaxy complex to try some authentic classic and contemporary Spanish tapas prepared by chef Alfredo M. Pérez-Dobón Batlles and his team.

The three-storey converted Macanese home features a bar and tapas area, restaurant and terrace - which is the perfect spot on a warm autumn evening to enjoy a few sundowners. We recommend a bottle of Spain's finest red wine - there is a good selection on the menu, with prices starting at 60 patacas a glass or 365 patacas a bottle.

Pair it with tapas such as the succulent lamb skewers - marinated lamb sirloin brochette and come with potato crunch with a sweet onion confit - and the assorted croquettes: jamón Ibérico, black butchery and traditional stew, Spanish piquillo peppers purée and fresh lettuce. The traditional Spanish paella, enough for two, is also a good choice and topped with an array of fresh seafood.

For a lighter option, the traditional Spanish cod in pil-pil sauce (olive oil, garlic and cod jelly) is a dish from the Basque region of Spain, and the patatas bravas are a must-try. There are several desserts to choose from, including a fruit platter, and for chocoholics there is a chocolate truffle, orange candy and cinnamon shot. Tracey Furniss
