Historic French restaurant Dalloyau opens outlet in the heart of Hong Kong
- Famed for serving the Palace of Versailles royal court, Dalloyau opens its fifth location in Central and has unique and flavourful dishes found only in this restaurant

Dalloyau, the famed maison de gastronomie that served the Palace of Versailles royal court from 1682, first arrived in Hong Kong in 2014, opening in Harbour City. Five years on, and there are now five outlets, the latest of which opened in mid-August in Central.
The restaurant is opposite the main pedestrian crossing from Pedder Street on Queen’s Road. The entrance has a small counter selling Dalloyau cakes, and tucked behind that is the restaurant. We love the colour palette of baby blues and soft reds.

The menu features dishes that can only be found at this outlet such as the deliciously moreish smoked eel and foie gras terrine with tomatoes (HK$168), perfect for sharing as it is quite rich. We loved the caramelised top and it is accompanied by toast. Another good dish was the crabmeat salad, tomato, with avocado ice cream and beignet (HK$188). The onion soup (HK$108) comes with a pastry top, that when broken reveals a light but rather hot soup. It is tasty and I prefer this lighter version to the traditional French thick onion soups. For mains, we had a perfectly cooked salmon coulibiac. (HK$598) which has to be ordered a day ahead. It is much like a beef Wellington but with salmon wrapped in puff pastry and stuffed with layers of mushrooms, risotto, spinach, gherkins and egg whites. The dish is enough for three people. For dessert, we went for the excellent rum baba, which is soaked in dark rum and topped with mascarpone cream cheese. It is not to be missed. The crêpe Suzette with orange, and the dairy-free dessert of apples, apple sorbet and apple gel (HK$108) were light and refreshing. The menu has a lot of dairy-free options. Dalloyau serves lunch, dinner and afternoon tea.
