The oxheart tomato with basil pesto, rocket and burrata served at Cornerstone in SoHo is fresh and big enough to share.

Looking for a family-friendly, fine dining restaurant? SoHo’s Cornerstone bistro is a good option

  • Arcane’s Shane Osborn opens a new, casual bistro in SoHo led by chef Neal Ledesma to offer an affordable yet first-class experience with a succulent menu
Good Eating

This casual bistro by Shane Osborn is already a neighbourhood hit on Hollywood Road. Unlike his upmarket eatery, Arcane, there are no reservations here. It is a family-friendly, chill space that seats 24. Head chef Neal Ledesma and sommelier Didier Yang are both veterans of Arcane, so be assured, diners will have a first-class experience.

Dishes at Cornerstone in SoHo are creative and delicious, such as the tagliatelle with smoked sausage, mushroom and peas.

The curated menu offers a variety of choices that should appeal to a range of palates. We went for the oxheart tomato with basil pesto, rocket and burrata (HK$108), which was enough to share. The red prawn with baby artichoke, lemon thyme and olive oil (HK$148) had a good balance of flavours and the smoked salmon was perfectly cooked and melted in the mouth, and comes with malt bread, herb cream cheese and cornichon (HK$148).

How new chef at Banyan Tree in Seoul is mixing things up

Our favourite mains was the Wagyu bavette (HK$188) which was accompanied by red onion and rocket on ciabatta with a side of mustard mayonnaise. The meat was succulent and tasty and the ciabatta soft and airy with a slightly crispy crust – this is a must-try and it was enough for two. The tagliatelle with smoked sausage, mushroom and peas (HK$148) was another good choice. Dessert was the lemon posset (HK$78), one of my favourite sweet treats in Hong Kong. The lemon had the right amount of sweetness and came with strawberry, mint and meringue toppings. For drinks, there is a wide selection of wine including some lesser known labels such as Skyline of Gobi by Tiansai – a red made from 100 per cent Marselan, from the Gobi desert in China; Gris de Koshu by Grace – a Japanese white wine made from a unique locally grown Koshu grape and a Tannat from Uruguay.
