London’s famed Duck & Waffle restaurant – the highest restaurant in London located on the 40th floor of Heron Tower in Bishopsgate – recently opened its first overseas branch in Hong Kong at IFC Mall. Serving British cuisine with European and American influences, the dish you must try here is, of course, the duck and waffle (HK$230), which features confit duck leg, buttermilk waffle, fried duck egg and mustard maple syrup. It is a large serving so we suggest you share this between two or three people. It is like an extravagant American breakfast with its tender duck meat and rich, salt and sweet flavours, and we love every mouthful.

Our other favourite dish on the menu is the foie gras crème brûlée (HK$150). This, too, is a rich dish, and should be shared. Its soft and creamy texture with the sweet crunch on top pairs well with the puffed pork skin brioche. Another starter worth trying is the Irish crab (HK$160), which comes with large pieces of puffed nori, oyster mayonnaise and sea vegetables. We scoop some crab and crunchy sea vegetable onto the nori for a delicious mouthful. The beef tartare (HK$150) features pickled onions, marmite cured egg yolk and dripping croutes. We also enjoy the bacon-wrapped dates (HK$110).

We are glad we saved room for dessert, as the torrejas (HK$140) of maple-glazed apples with cinnamon ice cream is delicious, and is also enough for two. The PBJ macaroon ice cream sandwich (HK$80) is a giant macaroon stuffed with banana, raspberries, ice cream and crunchy toppings. Do not forget to look at the wine and cocktail list. This is destined to become a weekend favourite for the family.
