Cabana Breeze, Lantau Island: Alfresco dining and tropical coastal fare
- The restaurant offers all-day dining with a relaxed vibe: think a gin and tonic trolley and seafood dishes like lobster risotto and grilled Spanish red prawns

Sat next to the new Sheraton Hong Kong Tung Chung Hotel in a compact square fringed with restaurants where people enjoy leisurely lunches, Cabana Breeze fits right in with its alfresco dining and tropical coastal fare. We sat outside on a warm Saturday afternoon and started with cocktails. The tiki-inspired drinks are made with craft spirits and laced with house infusions. We went for the Dark & Stormy Lantau (HK$115), spiced rum, yuzu, demerara sugar, ginger beer and bitters. There is also a gin and tonic trolley with a choice of speciality flavours.

The food arrived and the Hawaiian tuna poke (HK$148) with diced cucumber, crispy onion, chives, coriander leaves and the secret cabana sauce was a deliciously light and refreshing starter. Next, the hamachi ceviche (HK$138) with cherry tomato, black garlic edamame and aromatic herbs, topped with fried onions, offered multiple flavours and textures.
My favourite was the crab salad (HK$148) with (snow) crabmeat topped with mango, papaya and avocado purée, the fruity flavours balancing well with the sweet crabmeat. The creamy burrata (HK$128) dish comes with assorted tomatoes, olive oil and basil and was a familiar favourite. For mains, the cod fish stew (HK$198), cooked in seafood and tomato sauce, is served on a bed of bell peppers. The caponata was cooked to perfection, the cod melting in the mouth and the tangy flavours of the peppers matching perfectly.
The grilled Spanish red prawns (HK$288) were sweet and oozing with garlic butter, and came with a side salad. Crowd favourites were the slow-roasted baby suckling pig braised with orange fennel and served with salsa verde (HK$268; HK$888 for 4-6 people) and the lobster risotto (HK$298). The arborio rice is cooked in the shell with tomato sauce and topped with butter-poached lobster and caviar.
For dessert, we tried the pineapple Tatin (HK$88), a pineapple rum cake served with coconut ice cream, and churros with chocolate mousse (HK$78).
