I love the new trend that combines a lug sole with a posh shoe. Which one should I buy so I won’t be mistaken for a work man?
Lug Story, Tsim Sha Tsui
The Dictator rules: I’ve never seen a labourer in designer heels but maybe I need to get out more. Thick, hard tread on a dainty luxury shoe? I didn’t even know that was a trend until I started looking. I doubt anyone will think you work hard at anything but looking good if they see you in a pair of Jimmy Choo Dylan biker boots (HK$11,900; Elements, 1 Austin Road West, Kowloon tel: 2196 8966), which have a 1.2-inch platform and 4.7- inch heel. This season, though, the trend has extended beyond boots. Mulberry has made a chunky platform heel with lug sole out of a classic loafer (HK$8,500; Gateway Arcade, Harbour City, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel: 2956 0830). Miuccia Prada must be quite taken with the “Punk” exhibition at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art; there is footwear inspired by “creepers” at both her fashion houses. Prada offers black leather lace-ups with zigzagging, tooth-like rubber soles and a metallic or white tongue (HK$8,100; Elements, tel: 2196 8981). Miu Miu has a fab pair of so-called derby shoes in silver lame and black leather (HK$6,100; Ocean Centre, Harbour City, tel: 3417 3113), only they don’t have laces and holes to be laced up. Marni’s done its own version of the derby black calfskin with a stylised spiral pattern on perforated leather (HK$5,300; Gateway Arcade, tel: 2118 2508). Pedro Garcia has added tread to his cork and leather designs in the Chenoa ankle boot (HK$3,590;

I want one of those jumpers that look like they’ve been painted over. How can I get my hands on one without having to steal one from my friends? Ha ha. No, I mean are they in stores here or should I shop online?
Coated in Fashion, Black’s Link
The Dictator: If you’re as young as you sound, then you should be studying, young lady. Sorry, I just wanted to balance your joke with another lame attempt at being funny. If you enjoy shopping in real stores, then you certainly will find a knit of that description at the moment. Pull & Bear has some great crew-neck acrylic knit jumpers covered with a shiny sheen in black, gold or ecru (HK$399; Times Square, Causeway Bay, tel: 2506 3033). You obviously know the cropped metallic printed pullover by 3.1 Phillip Lim in black or copper viscose/merino mix (HK$5,890; IFC Mall, Central, tel: 2805 0688). You’ve probably seen it either in your mother’s or spoiled friend’s wardrobe. Also, check out the entire line of coated knitwear by Atsuro Tayama (IFC Mall, tel: 2167 7308), including a deep V-neck peplum pullover (HK$4,395), sheer-panelled jumper (HK$2,995) and long cardigan (HK$3,495). You’ll love MSGM’s chunky red wool/acrylic jumper (HK$3,650; Lane Crawford, IFC Mall, tel: 2118 7777), with big horizontal black stripes that look like they’ve been painted on with rubber.
