Beard? Overalls? Hipster alert! What are you doing this far from Brooklyn? Just teasing, dude. It's been great to see more and more people expressing themselves through their clothes in this town. I have some overalls by Junya Watanabe from 2012 that I still treasure. The irony these days is there are tons of "boyfriend" overalls, but barely any for boyfriends, though Zara has some nice black ripped denim dungarees (HK$699). On the virtual high street, topman.com has short and long varieties in light denim, or you could really strike out with faux black leather dungarees (HK$658 to HK$1,015). Denim & Supply has a few left of its khaki beige Brower Overall, with a modern tapered leg (HK$1,550; www.ralphlauren.com). I kind of like them contrasted with a nice dress shirt and bow-tie, and even topped with a tweed blazer when it gets cooler. Street-fashion photo op guaranteed!
Are you a farmer, sir? This can be the only reason one would need bib-front overalls in Hong Kong's otherwise urban, cosmopolitan society. What a shame www.tractorsupply.com does not ship to Hong Kong. Novices should search for reliable brands, such as Dickies, Carhartt and Walls (HK$255 and up) via websites such as www.sheplers.com and www.sierratradingpost.com.
Yum! Yeah, who said we all have to use the same peppermint products to clean our teeth anyway? Not Marvis, that's for sure. The Italian company makes tartar and plaque-fighting toothpastes using a traditional method that ensures just the right texture. Its toothpaste comes in delicious flavours, such as Ginger Mint, Cinnamon Mint, Jasmine Mint and Amarelli Licorice (HK$90 each; Joyce Grooming, The Landmark, Central, tel: 2522 2886) plus Whitening Mint (HK$110). Oh, and there's an alcohol-free companion peppermint and herb Marvis Mouthwash (HK$170). If you like non-minty flavours, check out Botot from France (HK$89.20; www.themotley.com), which was originally created for King Louis XV and comes in ginger, cinnamon and gillyflower.
