Dude, everybody's doing them at the moment, and JT probably had a lot to do with that. It's such a great way to do the double-breasted thing, which is still totally "in", while not resembling a hoodlum in a big-shouldered, traditional blazer. Plus, you can dress it down, with a tee and jeans, or up, with a nice shirt and trousers. Now, I'm pretty sure the one you're thinking of came from last May, when your man wore it to the Cannes Film Festival. Forget about it. It's long gone. Instead, take a look at this season's double-breasted cardigan by Lanvin in dark blue merino wool (HK$7,400). Streetwear brand Vince, meanwhile, has an awesome peacoat-inspired, double-breasted, shawl-collar cardigan in dark grey wool (HK$3,064; www.vince.com). Giorgio Armani, of all people, has mixed it up with a contrasting fuzzy front panel and a flat texture on the body section of his double-breasted blue wool cardi (HK$7,200). And if you want one cheap, hit up H&M for a version with side pockets in charcoal or pearl grey (HK$349).
Synthetic fibres? Sheer blasphemy. My skin has broken out in a rash just contemplating the prospect. Slowear does one in navy wool with pearlescent buttons, notch lapels and two front patch pockets (HK$5,643; www.selfridges.com). I have also seen them at Hugo Boss' contemporary label, Boss Orange, in a cotton and wool blend (HK$2,500 and up).
