Meet Billy, the Cavalier King Charles spaniel and star of new Hong Kong book series
- The pet dog of British fitness instructor-turned-author Jessamy Woolley features in a story about the wonderful wildlife of the urban jungle
- Woolley moved to Hong Kong in 2015 and, in writing her books, achieved a long-held ambition

After quitting her corporate job in Britain and moving to Hong Kong in 2015, Woolley followed her passion for fitness – she works as a spinning instructor at the XYZ cycling studio, in Central – but it took a nudge from her husband to push her to achieve another ambition.
“I’d been talking about writing a kids’ book for so long that my husband gave me a sketchbook and said, ‘Get on with it,’” laughs Woolley when we meet in her Mid-Levels flat.
The result is Billy the Cavalier and Friends, a fun tale that stars Woolley’s three-year-old Cavalier King Charles spaniel.
“During walks up to Victoria Peak, Billy was so intrigued by the animals and insects, and kids were drawn to him. I’ve got a video of him chasing a butterfly, he didn’t want to hurt it but was captivated by it,” she says. “I thought there was a cute story in that.”
