Wing Shya x Happy Together: photography show by Wong Kar-wai’s long-time collaborator
An exhibition at Blue Lotus Gallery covers Wing Shya’s 20-year career as a photographer and filmmaker, including on-set stills from the movies, Happy Together, 2046 and In the Mood for Love.

Hong Kong photographer and filmmaker Wing Shya is staying creative during the down time that comes with the coronavirus. He is relaxing, too.
The change of pace has also influenced his outlook. “The world has changed and so has my work. I’m seeing things from a different perspective – wider and more romantic,” he says, adding his latest project is a collaboration with Hong Kong composer Lam Fung.
Wing has many creative feathers in his cap. In 2010, he released his blockbuster debut feature film, Hot Summer Days. Love in Space followed the next year. His images have been exhibited globally, from London’s Victoria and Albert Museum to the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, and published in magazines such as i-D and Vogue. His raw style captures feelings of both loneliness and togetherness, which resonate all the more as people struggle with isolation during the pandemic.

An exhibition of his work titled “Wing Shya x Happy Together” is currently showing at the Blue Lotus Gallery, in Sheung Wan, as part of Central West Hong Kong, a collaboration between contemporary art galleries across the Central and Western district.
