Sexy selfies have become the norm among Hollywood stars

Sexy selfies have become the norm among Hollywood stars.

Did the world learn nothing from Edison Chen? It seems celebrities have forgotten that there are nerdy perverts out there with computer superpowers.

Not too long ago, local Lothario Chen took his laptop in for repairs only to have his sexual conquests with female stars downloaded from his hard drive to be shared by every newspaper in the city. The scandal scarred the careers of the females involved and exiled Chen from the entertainment industry for years.

Now, stars such as Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton and others are learning that the delete button is no guarantee their nude selfies will completely vanish - not when there are horndog hackers lurking in the web.

At least these invasive geeks are not using their tech prowess for more destructive evil - like causing infrastructure anarchy, draining billions from global banks or serving as minions for terrorists like in the Die Hard movies. In a way, it's good to know that trolling for scantily-dressed famous females is the extent of their ambition.

I do feel bad for the violated women. Who in a private moment of narcissism hasn't snapped a few in their best underwear or lingerie, or before a shower? It is kind of empowering, even in private, to act like you're hot like Beyoncé, to shake that thing and twerk it to show you can work it.

If it's any consolation, we're now in an age of exhibition. Revealing boobs and butts is a regular part of the script in TV shows such as Sex in the City and Game of Thrones. And guess what the most anticipated movie next year is? The erotic Fifty Shades of Grey.

And, as embarrassing and hurtful as these leaks may be, there many more wannabe starlets intentionally releasing sex tapes and exiting cars sans underwear to gain an extra five minutes of attention. For those with few prospects and fewer morals, flashing your privates has become an act of career advancement.

If Chen's sex photos came out today, I wonder if they would have the same shocking impact. Would they get more hits than Chrissie Chau wearing a microbikini?

J-Law needn't worry about this scandal lingering - not when Kim Kardashian just announced she will release a photo book of sexy selfies next spring. The title? Wait for it ... Kim Kardashian Selfish. The reality star said of her self-absorbed project: "I mean, every girl takes pictures of their ass in the mirror." I admit I've done that. But I think I look good and, if the photos were ever leaked, I would feel more proud than ashamed. On the other hand, if anyone ever got hold of my high school pictures - with the Heather Locklear hair, braces, Tommy Hilfiger gear and ogling a Boyzone poster - that would be naked embarrassment.
