Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah’s recent trending hashtag on Twitter is just one example of how popular royal families are on social media
Even royals aren’t spared from internet trolls.
On September 12, 2019, Malaysia’s queen, Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, became a trending hashtag after her decision to deactivate her Twitter account as an apparent result of cyberbullying. While the queen’s many followers enjoyed her active social media presence, it ultimately proved to be no match for an army of critics and trolls.
In spite of the potential for online harassment, many royals continue to live their best lives online, amassing large social media audiences seeking a glimpse behind the palace walls. Here’s a collection of some of the world’s most followed royal social media accounts:
The royal family, United Kingdom
The British royal family has always been a subject of keen interest and their follower counts on social media reflect just that.
