At 29, Kardashian was dating American football player Reggie Bush of the New Orleans Saints. Their relationship, which was featured regularly in early seasons of reality TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, led to rumours that the couple split because Bush wasn’t fully comfortable with the dramatic level of spotlight.

Ten years later, Kardashian has added “West” to her last name, after marrying Kanye, the not-so-spotlight-averse musician known for having his own God complex, in 2014. For their recent anniversary, Kardashian wrote on Twitter, “5 years ago … I married my best friend”. It seems that Kim met the match she wants to grow old with.

At age 29, Kardashian freely gallivanted from one extravagant party to another. Approaching 39, while still quite the socialite, Kardashian is on the scene as the mother of four children. Between 2013 and 2019, Kim and Kanye have had two sons, Psalm and Saint, and two daughters, Chicago and North.

Impressing her millions of social media fans, Kardashian has been known to get her body back in shape quickly, strutting her pregnant belly down red carpets with style. She’s publicly used “2010 Kim”, the time before she had children, as a reference point for her ideal weight of 120 pounds (54kg). It’s clear she’s not letting age, or even motherhood, slow down her diet and fitness goals.

Before and after breaking the internet

Kim’s infamous Paper Magazine cover from November 2014, which featured her glossy behind, was not the only time she’s sought out to “break the internet” with her looks. Much of the pop culture icon’s fame has hinged on her appearance, which has continued to evolve. Over the years Kardashian has gone between dyed blonde bombshell hair and sultry black locks, has become known for her contoured face make-up style, and has drawn significant attention to her curvaceous features.

While the internet has run wild with speculation, Kim continues to deny that she’s had plastic surgery. At the 2019 Emmys, she even wore a “butt bustle” to draw further attention to her most famous feature, despite approaching 40.

In 2009, Kim K’s estimated worth was around US$33 million. At age 29, she had released her first self-titled fragrance to kick-start her career as an entrepreneur. Now, in the final year of her thirties, CNBC estimates Kardashian’s worth to be more than 10 times that at US$360 million. Most of her wealth comes from her cosmetics company, KKW Beauty, which shows her successful growth as a businesswoman over the past decade.

An advocate and future lawyer

In 2007, a sex tape made by Kardashian and her previous boyfriend Ray J was leaked, putting her on the map at a new level. Two years later, the then-29-year-old’s fame still largely hinged on that tape, her friendship with socialite Paris Hilton, and being a reality TV star in her family’s show.

Today, nearing 39, she has used that fame to also become an outspoken advocate who is passionate about prison reform. Last year, she had her first official meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House to help get Alice Marie Johnson, a low-level drug offender, pardoned after serving more than 20 years in prison. Kardashian is currently studying to become a lawyer and hopes to take the bar exam in her early forties.
