G-Dragon moved into a luxurious new home a few months ago, and he’s given his followers a sneak peek into his residence on Instagram. So what is there to know about the artist’s new abode, and what other plans does the 32-year-old K-pop pioneer have up his Chanel sleeve?

While we await news of his hoped-for comeback, we take a look at the artist’s reported net worth, influence and what he looks for in a home.

Luxury living

G-Dragon now has a penthouse suite in a posh residential area of Seoul with some of the highest prices in Korea, where many fellow celebrities, business leaders and politicians live. Besides more typical rock star features such as a swimming pool, gym and basketball court, Nine One Hannam also includes breakfast service and a video golf area.

According to AllKpop, the newly-constructed complex is made up of 300 homes spread across nine buildings. It uses a stand-alone housing concept, with each flat said to have its own lift. The six-storey estate is an architectural feat with a huge glass facade that gives it a modern and chic look, making it quite the tourist attraction for its museum-like features. G-Dragon’s suite is said to be worth around US$8 million.

Designer homes

Before his move, G-Dragon used to live in Hanwha Galleria Foret in Seongsu, another area home to many A-list celebrities, thanks to the privacy it offers them. Next to Seoul Forest urban park, the development has two 45-storey buildings and is known for its majestic views of the Han River and the Namsan Tower.

A known lover of the arts and a fashion enthusiast, G-Dragon’s eye for design was sharpened in his previous home – a select penthouses in a development designed by French architect Jean Nouvel.

With a reported net worth of about US$40 million as per Gazette Review, much of G-Dragon’s wealth comes from royalties, as he is known as one of his generation’s greatest songwriters and producers. A Korean Herald report in 2018 lists him as the idol with the most copyrights, with more than 170 songs under his name. More than 20 of those peaked at No 1 on the Gaon Digital Chart, Korea’s equivalent of the Billboard 100.

G-Dragon also earns from endorsements (he is a bona fide “CF King”, in fact), as well as his brand, Peaceminusone. In November, he appeared on the cover of Vogue Korea – available in three different versions– photographed wearing Chanel. The issue became the magazine’s bestselling one yet, with over 28,000 copies sold in the first three days alone.

The artist has also just revived his collaboration with Nike, having just released the Air Force 1 Para-Noise 2.0, complete with special lacquer coating which rubs off in time to reveal the icon’s artwork underneath. His first collection with the brand, which was launched around this time last year soon after he was discharged from military service, sold out in minutes.

As for music, G-Dragon’s last solo album was released in 2017 – the self-titled Kwon Ji Yong – which proved controversial due to its release on USB flash drive, before sweeping the charts worldwide, anyway. The artist is currently preparing for his comeback and is working on his next solo album.
