Among the band’s talented members is Winter (née Kim Min-jeong), whom fans have already started comparing to labelmate and former Girls’ Generation leader Taeyeon.

So who is 20-year-old Winter and what do we know about her?

She’s attracted attention from fans for her cute pre-debut photos

Fans were impressed by Winter’s natural good looks when pre-debut images of her were leaked in an online community. The user who posted the images theorised that it was because of this that she was scouted at a dance concert – and it so happened that she was also a good singer.

She thought the SM Entertainment recruiting agent was scamming her

Despite her beauty, it seems that Winter couldn’t believe it when she was being recruited for a career in entertainment. When the casting agent approached her at the dance concert, Winter initially thought that it was a scam because the agent refused to tell her the name of the company he represented.

Later on, her parents followed her all the way to Seoul for the audition. It was then that she discovered that she was actually auditioning for SM Entertainment.

She was the vice-president of the student body at her school

Entertainment site Zapzee revealed that Winter was quite popular back in school, and even held a position as vice-president of the student body.

Many of her former schoolmates have stepped forward with their own stories about her. One user shared that, “When I was preparing for my college entrance exams, Winter gave me a present for my birthday … She also took good care of the kids in the special education classes.”

She briefly considered a career in the military

In a video on Aespa’s official YouTube channel, Winter shared that while she had dreamt of becoming a singer since she was a child, she briefly considered a career in the military.

“I thought being a soldier was very attractive because many people in my family served in the military … so naturally [I came to think that way],” she said.

She’s always wanted a dog, but isn’t allowed one

In a radio appearance on SBS’s Kim Young Chul’s Power FM, Winter shared that she has always planned on having a dog by the time she turned 20. However, despite turning that age last January 1, she still hasn’t been able to fulfil that dream.

“I wanted to raise a dog when I turned 20. I’ve always loved dogs since I was little. But I’m still living in a dorm, so I still haven’t been able to do that,” she said.
