Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may have caused a stir in the past few weeks with their big royal reveal to Oprah, but it is not the first time that Queen Elizabeth has had to handle royal drama after nearly 70 years on the throne. Here are some of the right royal feuds that have kept tongues wagging and tabloids busy over the years.

Do they or don’t they get along? Royal watchers across the land seem to have very different opinions. Royal correspondent Katie Nicholl told Glamour that as far as she knows, the duchesses didn’t actually fall out with each other, saying they were two mature women who didn’t have much in common other than the fact that they both married princes.

In TLC’s documentary Kate v Meghan: Princesses at War?, which came out before the Oprah interview, author and journalist Eve Pollard had said: “It’s true to say that someone did see Katherine upset after a bridesmaid-dress fitting.” Broadcaster Carole Malone weighed in with her own interpretation: “Kate had just given birth to Prince Louis, so maybe she was a little bit emotional. But whatever the thing was, the future queen of England was in tears over what Meghan had said to her.” 

Regardless of what happened during the wedding, it’s been reported on numerous occasions that the two duchesses simply don’t often see eye to eye because they are just very different people. But could there be a jealous rivalry at play too? In the documentary, Malone speculates, “I do think had you been the top dog, had you been the young, gorgeous girl that everyone had been photographing for the last two or three or four years and all your works had been highlighted – everything you’d done – you might be a little put out when this gorgeous, American Hollywood star arrives on the scene.”
