The many talents of Lesserafim – ‘BTS’ little sisters’ are K-pop’s newest idols, but Sakura, Chaewon, Kim Garam, Kazuha, Huh Yun-jin and Hong Eun-chae can do everything from ballet to opera singing
An acronym for “I’m fearless”, Lesserafim’s presence has already started to shake up the Korean music scene. To put things into perspective, sales for its debut album reached nearly 200,000 after just the first day of its release.
A sophisticated mash-up of former Iz*One members, professional dancers and talented singers, here’s all there is to know about the individual new girls of Lesserafim who are ready to take over K-town.
Kim Chae-won
Kim Chae-won, or Chaewon, the daughter of theatre actress Lee Ran-hee, was previously a member of the multi-award-winning girl group Iz*One.
During her days with the group, she was their lead vocalist and lead dancer until Iz*One disbanded in 2021. But that didn’t stop her from continuing to pursue and live her dream K-pop idol life.
Chaewon joined Woollim Entertainment after the members went their separate ways and she made an appearance in Golden Child’s music video Let Me.
According to Korea Portal, she also released solo covers of IU’s songs on her YouTube channel and was featured in Esquire Magazine before her joining Hybe. Putting her previous experience as a pro-idol to use, she is to take the positions of leader and vocalist in Lesserafim.
Huh Yun-jin
This Korean-American singer drew attention from K-pop fans as soon as she debuted with Lesserafim.
According to Kbizoom, Huh trained under Pledis Entertainment and made her first public appearance in the Mnet survival show Produce 48. She soon gained popularity for her skills and made it as far as the semi-finals. She was even voted among the Top 3 Visuals by other trainees in the programme.
Koreaboo stated that Huh has a strong connection to music thanks to her former training as an opera singer – and the fact that she can play the ukulele and guitar.
Sakura
Seemingly born to be in the spotlight, Sakura has proved that she was made for the stage – she’s been performing ever since she was a young teenager. She made her idol career debut in 2011 when she joined the popular Japanese band HKT48 and became co-captain of Team KIV. She did the same for AKB48. In 2018, she joined Produce 48, a reality competition, then joined Iz*One as the group’s vocalist, visual and rapper. When the group disbanded, she went back to HKT48 and stayed until graduating from the band.
Sakura is also known for being an actress who has appeared in various dramas and films, flaunting her multiple talents on screen. According to Koreaboo, she added another feather to her cap when she released her own cosmetic brand called Cran By Molak.
Kazuha
Kazuha is a professional ballet dancer who has won several gold and silver medals for her performances, as stated by K-star Trend. She attended the Bolshoi Academy in Moscow, Royal Ballet School in the UK and Dutch National Ballet Academy in the Netherlands.
Kim Garam
Kim was the second member to be revealed in Lesserafim and so far very little information about her has been made public. Koreaboo reported that she is a student at Seoul Performing Arts High School, where she is in the theatre and film department. She also made an appearance in Enhypen’s Drunk-Dazed music video.
Hong Eun-chae
The maknae (youngest) of the group, Hong Eun-chae was a dance trainee under Source Music in January 2021 and studied at Def Dance Skool, according to multiple reports. She also auditioned for JYP Entertainment and Pledis Entertainment in the past.
But being a newbie in the field doesn’t mean she is short of connections. Hong is close to Kep1er’s Bahiyyih and Billlie’s Haruna, according to Channel Korea. Perhaps we might see some fun and surprising collabs in the future?
- Sakura and Kim Chae-won are previous members of popular girl group Iz*One while Kazuha is a pro ballet dancer – apparently Hybe’s CEO recruited her himself
- Hong Eun-chae is close with Kep1er’s Bahiyyih and Billlie’s Haruna, Kim Garam made a cameo in Enhypen’s MV, and Huh Yun-jin trained as an opera singer
