Wine and Spirits

Impress your guests this holiday season with a bottle of award-winning Mod Sélection Champagne – newly launched in Asia – or break out some Asian-infused craft brews courtesy of Baijiu Beer Original

Christmas might be a good time to splurge on your favourite beverages, but for a taste of something different this year why not go for a Tasmanian Blanc de Blancs, a Chinese baijiu made in Yorkshire, a beer-baijiu mix, or even champagne-style tea? If that didn’t whet your appetite, then here are some of our left field drink picks for the festive season – and where you can buy them in Hong Kong.

Mod Sélection Champagne

Recently launched in Asia are these champagne varieties by award-winning wine and spirits producer Brent Hocking and hip-hop star Drake, created in partnership with Maison Pierre Mignon. The winegrower has five generations of experience in an exclusive enclave of the Vallée de la Marne in France, which has helped produce and refine the finest champagnes over the years.

There are six in the Mod Selection with prices from HK$2,300 (US$297) up to HK$18,000 (US$2,322). A mid-range pick is the Mod Selection Reserve Vintage 2008, HK$4,000 (US$516), which has developing aromas of rich, ripe fruit. On the palate, there is dried apricot, orange zest and tropical pineapple finishes with brioche, nutmeg and a touch of clove. The champagnes are also beautifully packaged.

Available from Ginsberg+Chan, Loke Yew Building, Central.

Rosé Sparkling Tea by Fortnum & Mason

The sparkling teas at Fortnum & Mason have been a hit in Hong Kong more so than London, as there is an apparently larger percentage of consumers who prefer non-alcoholic tipples in our city. The sparkling teas come in a champagne-style bottle along with a pleasant popping unveil.
