In recent years, the biggest pipeline of new hotels scheduled to open has been concentrated in the Asia-Pacific – and the majority of that pipeline is in China. With approximately 400,000 rooms under planning or construction, Shanghai is leading the charge, but Guangzhou and the Greater Bay Area are not far behind. Originally scheduled to open in 2019, travellers will have to wait just a bit longer for the new Conrad in Shenzhen and the 2,000-room Grand Lisboa Palace — designed by Karl Lagerfeld and Donatella Versace — on the Cotai Strip in Macau, and the high profile Londoner Macao by Sands.
