The K-pop star attends the opening of his cafe and bowling club in style before leaving for military duty

South Korean singer-rapper G-Dragon, born Kwon Ji-yong, has been enlisted by the military and will start serving in the army today. In South Korea, military service is mandatory. He will be stationed at an army boot camp in Cheorwon, Gangwon province. He is the second member from the K-pop band Big Bang who has been enlisted by the army.

A couple of days ago, the superstar showed up in public for the last time before his 21-month hiatus. Sporting a blue suit and yellow sunglasses, Kwon attended the grand opening of his cafe, Untitled, 2017, and his bowling club, AC.III.T. on February 25. The cafe and the bowling alley are part of the YG Republique attraction nestled in the Shinhwa Theme Park on Jeju Island. The opening included a hand-printing ceremony and a party.

The 29-year-old heartthrob was heavily involved in the planning, design and concept of both venues. The structure of the cafe resembles the letters “G” and “D”, and the cafe is decorated with installations and artworks approved by Kwon. It offers speciality coffee, hot chocolate and desserts prepared with coffee and cacao beans selected by Kwon. The rock-themed bowling club, with an exterior inspired by the inside of a piano, features a lounge pub and private rooms as well as graffiti walls Kwon created.

The oldest member of Big Bang, T.O.P, was enlisted in February last year, and newly wedded member Taeyang is expected to be enlisted in the first half of this year.

YG Republique belongs to Korean company YG Entertainment. There are two restaurants and a store selling YG artists’ merchandise.
