Hey, Donald Trump, here’s 5 things to do in Greenland – the place that you couldn’t buy

Trump may not be able to buy Greenland, but the arctic island is still facing a far graver threat – so pay a visit before it’s too late
Although the leadership of the world’s largest island – an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark – bemusedly made it clear that Greenland isn’t for sale, it is still very much open to tourists. And with its natural beauty and rich cultural tradition, Greenland really is a one-of-a-kind destination.
But because of the spiralling climate crisis, Greenland’s future is very much unclear, with the huge ice sheet which covers around 80 per cent of the island’s surface recently found to be melting far faster than anticipated.
So before this icy land mass is transformed irreversibly forever, here are five things you should do in Greenland when you visit:
Hike the Arctic Circle Trail
Hiking in the wilds of Greenland is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Stretching from the edge of Greenland to the town of Sisimiut on the west coast, this 160km walk isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s best suited for experienced hikers who have prepared and planned ahead of time.
But your planning will be well worth the effort – because this trail will reveal scenic lookouts, gorgeous little huts, freshwater streams, sandy lakes and much more. In our busy, ever-connected world, it can be harder and harder to find quiet, distraction-free moments. Hiking the Arctic Circle Trail presents the perfect opportunity to get away from it all for once.
