Got7’s Jackson Wang just launched streetwear brand Team Wang Design – but was the K-pop star’s first fashion line worth the 3-year wait?

He’s gone way beyond music: Got7’s Jackson Wang is working non-stop to make a name for himself outside the K-pop industry. As well as being an ambassador for many brands including Cartier, the Hong Kong-born artist established his own agency in his hometown called Team Wang in 2017, where he released his first solo single Papillon. He went on to create seven more singles and his first full-length album “Mirrors” – so when will the man slow down?

On July 18, he made headlines with the global launch of his luxury streetwear and lifestyle clothing brand Team Wang Design, with Jackson as the brand’s founder, creative director, and designer. The brand revealed its first collection called The Original at its pop-up concept store in Shanghai, and it will be available in the US and Canada online and in-store at Atelier New York.

The collection features pieces such as tracksuit bottoms, hoodies and tops ranging from an accessible US$54 to US$224. All pieces don the brand’s name and come in stark colours.

Jackson announced the launch with an Instagram post, saying the brand took three years to make – planning, strategising, building and executing the best form of the label’s design division. He had to juggle his demanding K-pop career with the demands of his own business, pushing the launch back further.

Back in 2017, Got7 released “Flight Log: Arrival”, the third album of the Flight Log trilogy which topped Billboard’s World Albums Chart; their seventh “EP 7 for 7”, plus two singles in Japan. Jackson had to halt his promotional activities in Japan during this time, including the group’s tour, due to health concerns and conflicting schedules.

His busy schedule did not stop in 2018 when the group released its most successful song Look from their “Eyes On You” EP, and kicked off a world tour, selling out shows in America, Europe and Asia. Later in the year, the group released their third studio album “Present: You”, which called for more promotional work. In 2019, Got7 were busy with its Keep Spinning world tour, and had two comebacks in one year. This year, the group released “Dye” with its lead single Not By The Moon; the album has been their bestselling release to date.

Between managing his time between his commitments in China, South Korea and America, and having both group and solo careers, it’s amazing that Wang has managed to put together Team Wang – and look stylish while doing it.
