BTS delivered a Dynamite performance on America's Got Talent

K-pop super group BTS delivered a high-profile performance of Dynamite, its latest smash hit single, on the popular US talent competition show America‘s Got Talent. The weekly TV program is now in its 15th season on American television network NBC.

The seven-member group performed against a backdrop of a vacant late-night amusement park – Everland, South Korea‘s largest theme park in Yongin, south of Seoul.

The show marked the penultimate appearance of the band‘s official television promotional schedule for Dynamite in the US. BTS staged a virtual media blitz for the new song, starting with the debut performance at the MTV Video Music Awards late last month followed by an appearance on the Citi Music Series on NBC’s Today show two weeks ago and an appearance on the iHeartRadio Music Festival last week.

The South Korean boy band made history last month by becoming the country’s first recording artist to top The Billboard Hot 100 chart with Dynamite . The previous highest-charting South Korean artist was soloist Psy, whose 2012 viral hit Gangnam Style peaked at the No 2 spot.

Dynamite also took the top position on the Hot 100 for the second-straight week two weeks ago, becoming the 20th song in history to have remained on top in its second week following a No 1 debut. Dynamite stood at No 2 on the chart last week.

TXT to release mini-album on October 26

K-pop boy band Tomorrow X Together (TXT)’s third mini-album Minisode1: Blue Hour will hit the shelves on October 26, its agency Big Hit Entertainment announcing, breaking the news via a motion graphic video on YouTube and Weverse, an web and mobile fan community platform.

The 18-second clip reveals the album’s title and release date, but not much else.

“So far, the quintet’s albums have revolved around its dream-chasing and growth,” the agency said in a statement. “Before starting a new series, the members will unfold their ‘small story’ on the upcoming release.”

The record label also said TXT would display a “refreshing vibe.”

TXT, comprising Soobin, Yeonjun, Beomgyu, Taehyun and Huening Kai, debuted last year with album The Dream Chapter: Star. The group released its second mini-album The Dream Chapter: Eternity in May.

Monsta X to promote Korea’s cultural heritage

K-pop boy band Monsta X will take part in the “Visit Cultural Heritage Campaign”, which aims to rediscover the value of Korea‘s cultural heritage and promote heritage sites, according to the Korea Cultural Heritage Administration (CHA).

In cooperation with Seo Kyung-duk, a famous Korean PR specialist and professor who teaches at Sungshin Women’s University, the six-piece band will launch the joint programme Korean Heritage travelogue on YouTube on September 29. The series will show some of the country’s most significant heritage sites and will look into the history behind each place.

“We are so honoured to present beautiful cultural heritage in Korea,” a Monsta X statement said. “We hope more people get to know about the beauty of our cultural assets.”

Monsta X – comprising Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, Joohoney and I.M – debuted in 2015 with the album Trespass. The group has since released a string of hits including Dramarama in 2017.

Soon-to-debut K-pop group reveals sci-fi action flick P1H

K-pop group P1Harmony unveiled a feature sci-fi action film titled P1H: A New World Begins to introduce its members. This is the first time a K-pop group has debuted with a film project, according to its management agency FNC Entertainment.

The film revolves around the six members – Keeho, Theo, Jiung, Intak, Soul and Jongseob – who must save the world from a virus that makes people behave aggressively and violently. The members are spread out across different time periods but must come together to seek a solution.

P1H features a star-studded cast including actors Jung Jin-young, Jung Hae-in, CNBlue‘s Jung Yong-hwa, AOA’s Seolhyun and comedian Yoo Jae-suk.

Compared to other K-pop groups like BTS or Blackpink, whose films are documentaries centred on real behind-the-scenes stories of their world tours or album-making processes, P1Harmony offers both fantasy adventure and the group’s world view.

P1H is a film that reveals the world view of a K-pop group. It was interesting to unfold the K-pop narrative through film, and I focused on delivering a universal message so it can reach the group’s global fans,” said Chang, the mononymous director who was also behind hit flicks like The Target and Canola.

P1Harmony is the first boy band to debut in four years under FNC Entertainment following SF9.

“We were nervous about unveiling the film project because we all had no acting experience,” said Jongseob. “But after hearing that our official trailer for the film surpassed one million views in three days, we are more excited than nervous to make our debut.”

“We did MBTI personality tests and interviews with director Chang to build our own universe,” said Jiung. “We were able to immerse ourselves into the characters we played and I think that experience will definitely help us in performing onstage as a K-pop group.”

The members also expressed their desire to follow the footsteps of K-pop groups who have achieved incredible feats in both the domestic and global music scene.

“Our ambition is to nurture our talent and creativity to follow their path. We hope to find our musical strength and grow as a leading K-pop group,” Jiung said.

The film will hit local theatres on October 8 and P1Harmony will officially debut later in the month.
