The Taiwanese-born rapper and singer, 17, who will start filming a television drama this month, also plans to join a new K-pop group

Lai Kuanlin, a Taiwanese member of the now-defunct K-pop boy band Wanna One, is gearing up to make his small-screen debut in mainland China.

The rapper and singer’s popularity there will be a big help to his acting career, according to industry sources.

Lai, 17, is expected to head to mainland China in the middle of January to begin filming the television drama.

However, reports suggest he will not be giving up his singing career in South Korea, where he has enjoyed popularity as the youngest member of Wanna One.

It is believed he will form a new K-pop boy band with Yoo Seon-ho, another idol trainee managed by Lai's agency, Cube Entertainment.

Yoo took part in the second series of Mnet’s survival reality television show Produce 101 alongside Lai, which led to the formation of Wanna One, in 2017.

However, he was eliminated before the final 11 contestants were chosen to form the group.

Although Wanna One officially disbanded on December 31, the boy band is set to stage its last gigs for fans at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul from January 24 to 27.
