K-pop singer-turned-actress Sulli’s Instagram live-streaming of her drinking party on Monday has sparked controversy in South Korea.

The red-faced Sulli, 25, wearing a black sleeveless blouse, filmed herself enjoying the party with her friends at a restaurant.

About 14,000 people watched her Instagram live feed and asked her questions.

When some fans asked personal questions, she said: “You do not have to worry about me. I hate people who ‘gaze rape’ me.”

“Gaze rape” is a newly coined term referring to excessive gazing that makes people feel violated.

When another netizen asked Sulli to turn the live-streaming off, she refused, and said: “I do not think such a person is my fan. What are you?”

Some netizens said Sulli – whose real name is Choi Jin-ri – was simply expressing herself, but others said she should have been more cautious about her behaviour and the words that she used.

Sulli made her debut as a child actress in 2005 and joined the successful K-pop girl group f(x) in 2009.

The group’s hit debut single LA chA TA, was followed by chart-topping releases including Nu ABO, Pinocchio (Danger) and Electric Shock.

She left the group in 2015 to forge an acting career.
