In a bid to raise funds for the Michael J. Fox Foundation’s fight against Parkinson’s disease, a pair of Nike Mag sneakers sold for HK$810,000 at a live auction in Hong Kong on October 11. 

Inspired by the 1989 film Back to the Future Part II, the shoes are a replica of those that Marty McFly worn in the film, with novel features such as automated and adaptive lacing and pressure sensors. The trainers tighten as the wearer puts them on, and can be easily adjusted for comfort via the touch of a button. The battery life is indicated by an illuminated sole, and the trainers can be conveniently recharged wirelessly.
