Actress Karena Lam takes on ambassadorial role for organisation which advocates no meat on Mondays

The vegan movement is growing by the day.

Green Common founder David Yeung has launched Green Monday in Taiwan, following its successful launch in Singapore, a move that brought Right Treat’s meatless pork Omnipork and ranges offered by plant-based Beyond Meat to the market. Green Monday is a non-profit organisation that advocates eating no meat on Mondays as part of a healthier diet and reduced carbon footprint.

Joining Yeung at the Taiwan launch was Golden Horse Award-winning actress Karena Lam, who will be Green Monday’s Greater China ambassador and chief eco curator, a role that has seen her curate two art exhibitions in Hong Kong to raise awareness for the cause.

“Phasing out meat has positively influenced my diet, consumption habits and wellness,” Lam says. “I see a smooth transition towards a vegetarian diet. I urge everyone to go plant-based at least one day a week, and help save Mother Earth. If we get enough people to join, perhaps we can make change happen.”

Restaurants taking part in the Green Monday movement in Taiwan will be working with Omnipork, Beyond, and the plant-based dairy-free cheese Daiya.

“With almost one in every five people practising vegetarianism/veganism, we see a huge demand for innovative, nutritious and sustainable plant-based products in Taiwan,” says Yeung.
