Why Banwa Private Island in the Philippines is the world’s most expensive resort

The isolated luxury Banwa Private Island resort, in the Philippines – two hour’s flight by seaplane from Manila – can accommodate up to 48 guests at one time.

We are already halfway through 2019 and the chances are that you have worked hard enough to take a well-earned break.

While it would be nice to hop on a jet to get to a beach that is far, far away, but people living and working in Asia will be able to find some of the greatest escapes within easy reach.

Banwa Private Island, which sits on the coast of Palawan, in the Philippines, is the perfect place for a quick getaway.

Money can’t buy you the time you have lost, but it certainly can turn your island fantasy into reality.

Why you don’t have to be super-rich to own a private island

Banwa Private Island is the most expensive resort money can buy.

At US$100,000 a night, you’ll be paying much more than what you would pay to stay on Makepeace Island, Richard Branson’s second private resort – costing US$6,940 per night – on Australia’s Sunshine Coast. But it will be worth it.

Riding a jet ski is just one of the many activities guests can enjoy at Banwa Private Island.

The 15-acre (6-hectare) island resort can be reached after a two-hour flight by seaplane from Manila (or a 10-minute helicopter transfer from San Vicente in Palawan) and is paradise at its best.

Set within an archipelago of 1,780 forested islands, Banwa can accommodate up to 48 guests at any one time.

Designed by Manosa & Co and the MAP HK and Aquos Group, it is home to 12 garden rooms, six stylish beachfront villas – each one with its own jacuzzi, infinity pool and butler service – and one residential suite, set atop the highest point of the island.

There are a range of activities from which to choose, whether it is a game of golf, unlimited spa sessions, some paddle boarding, or simply lazing beside the pool.

However, we highly recommend diving into the Tubbataha Reef.

Only a stone’s throw away, the Unesco World Heritage Site protects 1,000 square km (385 square miles) of marine life, including whales, blacktip sharks, dolphins and the endangered hawksbill turtle, which lays its eggs on the island’s beaches.

Head out via the island’s limousine tender, the Wajer 38, or the Lagoon 630 Catamaran, where you can spend the night.

For the money you will be spending, rest assured you will be eating very well.

The island is equipped with its own organic farm and supply of fresh spring water and honey.

It also has the luxury of chef Nadedja Bouacha, the former private cook and nutritionist to the Qatar royal family, who is in charge of the kitchens.

A meal here is always a feast, but never overindulgent. There is also a huge selection of fine wines; only the premium bottles cost extra.
