Despite catching her son sexually abusing her daughter on several occasions, a mother in Singapore allowed the siblings to sleep in the same bed often and did not report the assaults to the police.

The man then escalated to raping his sister, who was just 12 at the time. She had endured at least seven years of abuse at his hands by then.

When the girl discovered she was pregnant a few months later, their mother – out of fear that her son would be arrested – took the girl to Johor Bahru for an abortion.

The pregnancy was later terminated, and the foetus’s biological father turned out to be another boy.

On Tuesday, the siblings’ mother pleaded guilty to her offences from 2010 to 2017. She sobbed in the dock at times during the court hearing as her relatives, including the victim, looked on from the public gallery.

The 45-year-old admitted to omitting information about criminal offences and two other charges of knowingly permitting the ill-treatment of a child. Two other charges of omitting information will be taken into consideration for sentencing on February 22.
