Senior officials appointed in provinces around China amid crackdown on corruption

Some vacancies created after senior cadres sitting on political advisory bodies were detained for alleged graft

At least 46 Communist Party officials have been appointed to senior provincial government positions in the past month after most of the provinces and regions in China held their annual People’s Congress and meetings of the their political advisory bodies.

The extensive anti-corruption campaign since President Xi Jinping took office and changes of personnel at the end of last year have created many vacancies in most provinces’ leaderships, The Beijing News reported.

Most of the 46 officials appointed in 28 provinces and regions have taken posts on their political advisory bodies, the People’s Political Consultative Conference.

Six vice chairmen of the groups around the country were detained as part of corruption investigations last year.

They included Ling Zhengce, an elder brother of former presidential aide Ling Jihua, who is also under investigation for alleged graft.

Twenty officials have new jobs in provincial legislatures around the country as part of a general reshuffle.

The vice governors of Fujian and Jilin province have resigned, but no further details have been given.
