Ancient coffin at museum in China used as ‘donations box’

An ancient coffin displayed in a museum in western China has been covered in offerings of cash by visitors wishing for good luck, according to a newspaper report.

The money was showered on a coffin at the Wushan Museum in Chongqing, the West China City Daily reported.

The coffin was found on the mid reaches of the Yangtze River and belonged to the Ba people dating back about 2,000 years.

Visitors have thrown and cash and coins into the coffin at the museum, the report said.

Other examples of visitors using exhibits to leave cash have been reported by the media in China, including money left in a dinosaur display case at the Beijing Museum of Natural History.
