About 4,000 people and two helicopters have been searching mountains around a remote village in eastern China for three children who have gone missing, according to a news website report.

The children from Shanghe village in Pujiang county in Zhejiang province left their homes to play outside on Tuesday morning, Zhejiang Online reported.

They were a 12-year-old girl, her seven-year-old brother and a neighbour’s child aged eight.

As night fell, they had still not returned.

The father of the siblings went out to search for them, but to no avail, the report said. He then alerted the police.
